How to Remove Chocolate from Your Carpet

The fall season has plenty of holidays to celebrate with your family. Huge parts of what makes these holidays fun are the delicious meals and appetizing treats that they come with. Even if you're careful while eating in carpeted areas, chances are you won't be able to stop all messes. For this reason, DuPage Cleanpro in Aurora has some tips to help you remove chocolate from your carpet.

Tools to Remove Chocolate from Carpeting

  • Butter knife
  • Paper towel
  • 4 clean washcloths
  • 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 1 cup of white vinegar
  • 2 cups of water

Steps to Remove Chocolate from Carpeting

The best way to get rid of a carpet stain is to act right away and remove it before it sets. Start by removing as much chocolate as possible using a butter knife. Use a clean paper towel to clean the chocolate from the knife in order to prevent smearing the chocolate deeper into the carpet. Using a solution of liquid dish washing detergent and warm water, take a clean washcloth and dab the solution on the stain. Wait a few minutes while the solution breaks down the stain. Now, soak up the excess liquid with a clean washcloth. Apply a solution of white vinegar and water to the stained area with a clean washcloth. Let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse the stain. Use a clean washcloth dipped in warm water to rinse the area. Let the area air dry. If the stain doesn't disappear completely but does get lighter, repeat the process once more.
